The California Council for the Social Studies is thrilled to announce the 2025 Annual Conference scheduled for March 6 - 8, 2025 at the San Francsico Marriott Airport Waterfront.

Our Voices, Our Stories: Developing Community & Belonging Across the Social Studies

As social studies educators, we have the opportunity and a responsibility to amplify the voices of historically marginalized communities. Moreover, we continually seek ways to increase our students’ engagement in civic activism, re-imagining a world that is just and equitable. This year’s theme aims to highlight the work of educators, students, and organizations who celebrate the intersection of identities and the interdisciplinary nature of social studies. We need to ask questions about whose stories get included and then intentionally include the voices of those that have been erased. Students at all grade levels (TK-12) need more opportunities to examine and tell their own stories while also learning about each other. Celebrating the unique perspectives our students bring to the classroom emphasizes their agency and civic empowerment. The 2024 CCSS conference will support social studies educators to work alongside students in building inclusive democratic spaces and narrating tomorrow’s history.
